Title: Tungsten Contacts and Self-Cooled Spark Gaps Post by: JeffBehary on October 04, 2009, 09:34:47 PM http://www.electrotherapymuseum.com/2009/TungstenContacts/index.htm (http://www.electrotherapymuseum.com/2009/TungstenContacts/index.htm)
We're trying to revive the lost art of making Tungsten Contacts for Spark Gaps here :D... (http://www.electrotherapymuseum.com/2009/TungstenContacts/DSC08099.JPG) These are also useful for switches, induction coil interrupters, relays, and other kindred apparatus. Along with these contacts we are also putting together self-cooled spark gaps in the style of the early medical Tesla Coils. They are designed for extended use and for long run-times. (http://www.electrotherapymuseum.com/2009/FinnedSparkGaps/DSC08297.JPG) (http://www.electrotherapymuseum.com/2009/FinnedSparkGaps/DSC08291.JPG) These are all custom made on a personal basis depending on what you're looking for. (http://www.electrotherapymuseum.com/2009/FinnedSparkGaps/DSC08293.JPG) Here is a simple "coffee table" coil (only 250 turns of wire) run from a 9kV 60mA neon, .006 mfd condenser, and the 3 series Spark Gap seen above. It produces a 12" discharge. This form of stationary gap can be used for all styles and sizes of neon transformer powered coils (it can easily handle even 120mA) and small potential transformer coils of a few KW. Let me know if anyone needs anything! :) Jeff Behary Turn Of The Century Electrotherapy Museum |
