Title: FATBOY's New Variac
Post by: Dr_Spark on April 01, 2010, 10:38:25 PM
Good day,

Did not want to post final project until after the Thon, just in case it went up in flames and smoke.

After 6 years of pushing parts into a corner and with two sets of hands building this beast, must say it was all worth it.
With the soft warm up with resistors, can plug into any 30 amp 220 line with no breaker upset.

Running up to 75 amps on Quadzilla and holding steady (no smoke).

Building a crate is the only way to transport coils and equipment from now on, a pleasure to just roll up into trailer and lock wheels!  B)

Beautiful! Where did you find the red plexi?

Thanks for the kind words.

The red plexy was found at a local plastic shop. They have some wild colors these days.

Oranges, yellows, greens, and even black. The color plexy only comes in ΒΌ inch thickness however.
